Gary Girodat was driving in Fargo, North Dakota, when he was pulled over during a traffic stop. Little did Girodat know that this traffic stop was a setup, and he was there to receive exciting news.

Girodat was quickly given a ticket for “driving like a grandpa.” He was pretty confused until he saw the sonogram on the next page of his “ticket” showing that he was going to be a grandfather.

“He had absolutely no clue,” Girodat’s son, Damien, told Inside Edition.

Damien Girodat works as a police officer in Bismarck, North Dakota, and thought it would be a great idea to use his connections to surprise his father.

The police officers set up a traffic stop near a parking lot and then waited until Girodat drove by. They pulled him over for a faulty taillight, which confused Girodat since he thought his lights were fine.

“He thought I had him pulled over for no reason,” Damien Girodat said to Inside Edition. “He thought it was just a prank since I’m a police officer and he rarely gets pulled over.”

Girodat couldn’t believe his eyes and was quickly taken aback by the positive news.

“Growing up, I hardly ever saw him cry and tear up,” Damien Girodat told Inside Edition. “He said he now has to look for a crib when we visit.”

Damien Girodat’s wife, Rachel, is currently 16 weeks pregnant and is due in the spring.
