Babies get fussy for a variety of reasons. As a parent, your number one job is to get them to calm down. A content and happy baby is a beautiful thing.

Did you know that you could use foot reflexology to calm down a fussy baby? It’s true! This is a technique of pressure points that’s been used for thousands of years in pain relief. Think of it like alternative therapy for your sweet baby who might be suffering from colic issues, teething problems, or even a painful reflux. Babies rarely cry without a good reason. Pain is one of the reasons they might be fussy, but obviously don’t have any way to tell you without a few loud “waa-waahs.”

Here’s how to use foot reflexology to calm down a fussy baby.

Each Part of Their Foot Corresponds to a Part of Their Body

That’s the beauty of reflexology. In order to start this type of foot massage for your baby, it’s helpful to get them in a more relaxed state. Put on some soothing music, give them a bath, or have the baby seated in their favorite bouncer. In this type of chair you’ll have good access to their feet, and the baby will be able to look at you at the same time.

The Toes are Great for Teething

When you think the source of the fussiness might be their sore gums due to teething, the best spot to massage are those cute “little piggies.” Yes, the toes are key here to soothing pain in the mouth and jaw of the baby.

Middle of the Foot Is for Tummy Troubles

Babies also commonly have gas or tummy troubles. This can also include indigestion or reflux, which is quite painful for a very small baby. The middle of the foot is the part you want to massage here, especially the “solar plexus” point, which is right in the mid-point of where the ball of the foot is located.

A Note on the Actual Foot Massage

The key here is gentle strokes. You don’t want to do a deep tissue massage on a baby. They will be able to feel the effects of your soothing touch all throughout their little body, without too much pressure.

When you are able to utilize foot reflexology on a regular basis, you’ll notice that the fussiness with your baby is going to decrease.
